2018 Baltimore Festival Grand Marshals – Richard Laurence Weaver and Dawn Weaver
The Baltimore Festival has chosen the 2018 Grand Marshals, longtime residents and supporters of Baltimore; congratulations to Richard and Dawn Weaver!
Richard Laurence Weaver was born in Basil, Ohio, August 2, 1933, to Laurence E. and D. Mayre Weaver. He graduated from Liberty Union High School in 1951 and later attended Franklin University. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. Richard and Dawn were married in 1955.
Richard worked for his grandpa, Laurence Weaver, at Weaver Hardware until 1975. That year Richard and Dawn assumed ownership of the business and operated it until 1999 when it was purchased by their son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Sherry Weaver.
Weaver Hardware was originally established in Thurston, Ohio in 1895 by J.M. Weaver, uncle of Laurence Weaver. J.M. moved the business to Baltimore in 1898 where he sold all manner of hardware and even horse drawn buggies. In those days the hardware store also had a harness shop and Richard’s Grandfather, Elmer Weaver, (brother of J.M.) operated a metal shop and roofing business on the property.
In 1949, Richard’s dad, Laurence Weaver assumed operation of Weaver Hardware and in 1959-1960 razed the old and constructed the new building that stands today. Laurence Weaver added an HVAC business and was one of the first providers of propane gas in the county.
Richard has been very involved in Masonic Order, holding both state and National positions. Dawn was volunteered as a leader in the Rainbow for Girls organization.
